John Scheerer

John Paul Scheerer, age 77, Joplin, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at his home with family at his side.

John was born September 3, 1941 in Lincoln, Nebraska, son of the late Emil Scheerer and Martha Boeher Scheerer. He attended Faith Bible College in Ankeny, Iowa. He worked for years in Kansas City as a Project Manager in Commercial Construction. He was the lead contractor on the Kansas City International Airport Traffic Control Tower. He moved to Joplin after retiring, and was an active member of First Baptist Church of Joplin. John loved teaching Sunday School and Adult Bible Studies. He was also a member of the Carpenters Union in Kansas City, the Red Cross in Cedar County, and the Gideon International. In retirement John used his talents to help others by volunteering to work on several building projects. John loved to fish, watch football, make people laugh with his humor, spend time with his family, and he loved the Lord. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a daughter, Julie, a brother, Fred, and a sister, Ruth.








Survivors include his wife, Cheryle "Cheri" whom he married June 23, 1977, three sons, Thomas, Jason and wife Erin, and Stephen and wife Kendra; daughters, Tami and Sarah; brother, David; 16 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Memorial services will be Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Joplin with Rev. Jamie Tickle officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 a.m. until service time.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
