Richard 'Dick' Cooper, age 80, Joplin, passed away at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at Joplin Health and Rehabilitation Center after an illness.
Richard was born January 3, 1939 in Lamar, Missouri to the late Harold B. Cooper and Hester Wagaman Cooper and had lived in Joplin most of his life.
Richard graduated from Lamar High School in 1956 and Pittsburg State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He worked for Eagle Picher Industries for over forty years as a chemist. He was a proud supporter of the Missouri Southern State University LionBackers and former member of the Kiwanis Club of Joplin.
He married Frances Sue Harter on August 14, 1960 in Joplin. She survives.
Additional survivors include a sister, Kay Morris and husband, Mike, Webb City; niece and nephew, Kristine Williams and husband, Rocky, Stephen Morris and wife, Sherri; three great nieces and nephews; and three great great nieces and nephews.
Services are planned for Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Brock Cummins will officiate. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the Joplin Humane Society and MSSU LionBackers, in care of Parker Mortuary.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
