John Sims was born March 13, 1944 and died June 12, 2019. He was the son of Wiley Emsley Sims and Loeda Kleeman Sims of Neosho.
John graduated from Neosho High School in 1962, Drury College (now Drury University) with a B.A. in Business and Economics in 1966, and from the Missouri University School of Law in 1969 with a Juris Doctor Degree. He started his law practice in Neosho in September 1969 and was Assistant Prosecuting Attorney of Newton County until December of 1969, when he was appointed Prosecuting Attorney, and there, twice elected.
In January of 1975, he went into private practice with Charles Ruyle and George Henry. He practiced in several successful partnerships, and in 1995 formed a partnership with W. Henry Johnson and Andrew Wood, which lasted until 2004 when John and his nephew formed the Sims Law Office.
John also served two terms on the Board of Governor of Missouri Bar; President of Newton/McDonald County Bar Association; member of Board of Directors and Secretary of Bar Plan Surety Co,; former Chairman of the Southwest Missouri Estate Planning Council; and former city attorney for Neosho, Granby, Leawood, and Redings Mill; first chairman of the Neosho Chapter of Ducks Unlimited; and a member of the Rotary Club.
In November 1969, he married Margaret Anderson of Morganfield, KY. Their children are Elizabeth Sims Krueger (Mike) and John Wiley Sims (Amy). Their grandchildren are Andrew and Nace Krueger and Allie, Ashley, Ava, and Audrey Sims.

Memorial Visitation will be held 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, Neosho, MO.
