Gene Clark

Donald Eugene Clark, age 86, passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 11, 2019 at Medicalodge in Columbus following an illness.

Gene was born February 19, 1933 in Kanorado, Kansas. His parents were Clifford Lee and Pearl (Wigton) Clark. He moved to Cherokee County as a young boy and lived in Cherokee County all of his life, including the towns of Riverton, Lawton, Melrose, and lastly Columbus. 

He entered the U S Army April 22, 1953 and was discharged April 7, 1955. In 1958 he began working at Farmer Chemical Company, Joplin, MO until his retirement in 1995. He also worked most of his life as a farmer. 

He enjoyed hunting arrowheads and eating at Long John Silver; loved watching his grandkids participation in school plays and ball games; and liked fishing, gardening, traveling with his wife, and watching tractor pull competition. 

Gene was married to Shelva Jean Souder on August 16, 1963 in Joplin, MO. She passed away November 11, 2014. He was also preceded in death by his parents, twin boys, one sister, Genevia Packer, Brother and Sister in Law Calvin and Jessie Lou Davis and Sister in Law Caroline Raye Clark. 








Surviving are two sons, Mr and Mrs Kevin Clark, Parsons, KS, and Darrell (Kim) Clark, Caldwell, KS; three daughters, Karen Martin (Steven),Camden Point, MO, Deborah Anderson (fiancĂ©, Jeff Wood), Columbus, and Melissa Peak (Matthew), Parsons; one brother, John Clark, Columbus; 12 grandsons, Scott (Julie), Kendall, Kolby and Kyle Clark, Christopher, Tanner and Trever Clark, Kaden and Ty Anderson, Michael, Mason, and Marcus Peak. 7 granddaughters, Kiera, Kassidy, and Kaylee Clark, Sami Martin, Lacy Dry (Brandon), Jessica, Lauren, Macy and D Ja Anderson; and 6 great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon, Monday, June 17, 2019 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Columbus, Kansas. David Talle’ and Rick Prideaux will officiate. Pallbearers to serve will include Kevin Clark, Kendall Clark, Steven Martin, Scott Clark, Darrell Clark, Christopher Clark, Jeff Woods, and Kaden Anderson. Burial will be in Messer Cemetery, Galena, KS. 

The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 pm, Sunday, June 16, 2019 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Columbus, KS.
