Richard Bergen

Mr. Richard Lee Bergen, 83, of Goodman, Missouri, departed this life on Wednesday, June, 5, 2019, at Landmark Hospital in Joplin, Missouri, after months of declining health.

Richard entered this life on March 1, 1936, in Anderson, Missouri, son of the late Lee and Elsie (Chandler) Bergen. He was a lifelong area resident and a 1954 graduate of Anderson High School.

On March 27, 1957, he was united in marriage to JoAnn Clark and to this union three children were born. JoAnn lost her battle with cancer on June 23, 1993. On July 1, 1994, he married Charlotte Woolard and together they have shared the last twenty-four years. Richard retired in 1996 from Eagle Picher in Joplin after thirty-six years of service. He enjoyed Cardinal Baseball and being outdoors where his favorite activities were hunting, fishing, motorcycling and horseback riding. He was a longtime member of Banner Church of the Nazarene.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, JoAnn Bergen; a granddaughter, Tabitha Bergen; and a brother, Gerald Bergen.










Richard is survived by his wife, Charlotte Bergen of the home; three children, Sandra Bergen of Anderson, Jeff Bergen of Overland Park, Kansas and Beth Bergen of Pineville; two stepchildren, Charlene Bergen of Anderson and Darlene Smith of Rogers, Arkansas; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three step grandchildren; one step great granddaughter; a brother, Dennis Bergen and wife, Charlene, of Anderson; a sister, Betty Tucker and husband, David, of Ft. Scott, Kansas; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Bergen are 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2019, in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes with Pastors Dennis Bergen and Bill Hess officiating. Burial will follow in the Banner Cemetery. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Jake Bergen, Dalton Smith, Roger Lett, Darrell Epperson, Heith Lewis and Bo Bergen with Glen Eads and Gene Hall serving as honorary. The family will receive friends on Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Memorials are being directed to Banner Church c/o the funeral home.
