Edward C. ‘Ed’ Steele, age 80, Joplin, passed away at 8:58 a.m. Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Mercy Hospital. Knowing him the way we do, he is already cutting out whirly gigs to place on Heaven’s gate.
He was born August 16, 1933 in Joplin to the late Kenneth L. Steele and Anna V. Marlnee Steele.
Ed retired from Eagle Picher Industries, Precision Products. He enjoyed making beaded head dresses and various other wood working projects. He was involved with scouting for many years and was a faithful member of New Hope United Methodist Church. He enjoyed life to the fullest, even during a long bout with cancer. He was a devoted husband; father; grandfather and great grandfather. He adored his grandchildren and will be truly missed.
He married Eva Bernice Dome on May 1, 1953. She survives at the home.
Additional survivors include four sons, Kenneth Steele and his wife, Vickie, Webb City, Mike Steele and his wife, Evelyn, Joplin, Randy Steele, Joplin, Greg Steele and his wife, Denise, Carl Junction; one sister, Judy Stark, Maize, Kansas; one brother, Donnie Steele, Maize, Kansas; grandchildren, Matthew Steele, Chad Steele, Monica Mitchell, Amanda Steele, Tasha Steele, Kyle Vene, Axle Vene; and great grandchildren, Carsen Steele, Maxwell Steele, Darian Steele, Jett Steele, Conner Steele, Hunter Mitchell, and Trinidy Mitchell.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by a sister, Rosie Beard.
Services are planned for Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Parker Mortuary. Rev. Bob Simon will officiate. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be the sons and grandsons. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Parker Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Hope United Methodist Church, in care of Parker Mortuary.
