Helen Nolene Frisby Jones died Monday, April 7, 2014, at National Health Care in Joplin from complications of cancer. Helen was born on August 18, 1928, to Nolan and Mabel Burton Bacon in Bolivar, MO. The family later moved to Joplin where Helen graduated from Joplin High School in 1946. She married Charles Frisby on November 2 of that same year in Columbus, KS. Charles preceded her in death on September 26, 1987. Later she married Billy Jones on June 11, 1995. They resided in San Bernardino, CA for a few years before returning to Joplin for the remainder of their lives. Mr. Jones preceded her in death on February 11, 2003.
Helen attended beauty school in Joplin and for a time worked as a hairdresser. In later years, she was successful in retail sales, ending her career as a long-time employee of Montgomery Ward. Helen was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed needlepoint and cooking for her family as well as reading and watching old movies.
She was a member of the Letter Carriers’ Women’s Auxiliary and Blendville Christian Church. At the time of her death, she was a member of Blendville’s Young At Heart Organization and the YCC Sunday School Class.
Helen is survived by five children, Linda Collier and husband Bob of Carl Junction, Diane VanDeman and husband Sam of Joplin, Mike Frisby and wife Lynn of Joplin, Carol Chrisman of Brookline, MO, Richard Frisby and wife Rhonda of Webb City; a stepdaughter, Anita Klarer of San Bernardino, CA. She had 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren with two more great-grandsons expected soon. In addition to her spouses, Helen was preceded in death by a son, Larry Dennis.
Funeral services are under the direction of Parker Mortuary and will be held Thursday, April 10, at 10:3 a.m. at Blendville Christian Church in Joplin. Virgil Eubanks, minister will officiate. Burial will follow in Osborne Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Parker Mortuary from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9. Memorial contributions may be made to Young At Heart at Blendville Christian Church, in care of the mortuary.
