Richard Carroll Johnson, 66, was welcomed home to Heaven by his Lord on Friday night, April 25, 2014 at 10:27 p.m. He had been on home hospice care following lymphoma and renal failure. He was surrounded by his family. He fought a long, hard fight and did it well.
He was born on January 21, 1948 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois to John and Leah Johnson. He graduated from Missouri Southern State College in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science degree and received his master’s degree in Microbiology from Pittsburg State University in 1974. He was employed at Jasper County Division of Family Services from 1977 to 2002, when he retired.
He married Caroline Fay Marbut on May 30, 1970 in Joplin, where they made their home. He was ordained into the ministry of the Gospel at Memorial Baptist Church in 1980. They served the body of Christ together. They were active members of Emmanuel Baptist in Webb City.
Richard is survived by his wife, Caroline, Alba; his mother, Leah Johnson, Joplin; his brother, Scott Johnson, Arlington, Texas; a daughter, Lesli (Johnson) Stump and her husband, Eldon, St. Cloud, Minnesota; a son, Andy Johnson and his wife, Jennafer, Webb City; a niece, Christie Painter Westhoff, Joplin; and six grandchildren, who were his delight, Brandon, Lauren, Zachary and Anthony Stump, St. Cloud, Minnesota, and Kennedy and Brooklyn Johnson, Webb City.
Richard was preceded in death by his father, John (Jack) Johnson; his sister, Linda Painter; and a nephew, Michael Johnson.
Services are planned for Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Webb City. Rev. Kyle Beverlin will officiate. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jim Gates, Gregg Whitsett, Jack Dawson, Ron Jones, James McClintock and Jerry Fisher. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m. Monday at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Webb City.
