Glenn John Jurgens, age 92, of Curtis, Nebraska, died Friday, April 11, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family.
Glenn was born November 4, 1921 on a farm west of Moorefield, Nebraska, one of the four children of George and Emma (Waltemath) Jurgens. After graduating from Moorefield High School in 1939, he attended Kearney College for one year before serving in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. Returning home after the war, Glenn earned a BA from Hasting College in 1949 and began a 49 year career in teaching math, first at UNSA, then MVHS and UNSTA, impacting the lives of innumerable students. An active member of his community, Glenn was a boy scout leader, served on the city council and the ambulance board, was instrumental in the Curtis Little Theater, and the Methodist church choir. After retiring, he enjoyed traveling, wood-working, playing golf, and, most importantly, the love of family and the fellowship of friends.
On August 11, 1946, he married the love of his life, Beverly McDermott, and they had celebrated 62 years together before her death January 9, 2008. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his son, John Chris; and two brothers Chris Jurgens and Porge Jurgens.
Survivors include two sons, Randy (Cheryl) Jurgens, Lincoln, Nebraska, and Rod (Jo) Jurgens, Lamar, Missouri; a daughter, Pam Jurgens, Curtis, Nebraska; a sister, Francis Greenwood, Wellfleet, Nebraska; 12 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at noon, Monday, April 14th, at Curtis United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, Nebraska.
