Elaine Hammond

Elaine Hammond, daughter of Henry and Agnes Yagge, passed away peacefully, Tuesday morning, April 1, 2014 at the Rosewood Health Center in Independence, Kansas.

She was born in Sioux City, Iowa on January 12, 1921. Her family relocated to Neosho, Missouri and Elaine graduated from Neosho High School in 1939. She met the love of her life, J. Dean Hammond in high school and they were married on June 18, 1939. After J. Dean served in the military during WW II, they lived in Neosho where they raised two daughters. When her husband retired from La Z Boy Chair Company in 1982, they traveled throughout the United States before moving to the Green Gate Grove retirement community in Mission, Texas. After her husband passed away in 1997, Elaine remained at Green Gate Grove until she moved to John Knox Village in Lee’s Summit, MO in 2013. She enjoyed social activities at Green Gate, especially Bingo and classic movies. Her hobbies included sewing and baking and she was known for her delicious pies. Elaine was a member of the Official Church Board and an elder at the First Christian Church in Mission.

 She is survived by her two daughters, Brenda Wolfinbarger of Lee’s Summit, MO and Vickie Moomaw of Dallas, TX; four granddaughters, Mickie Wolfinbarger of Halfway, MO; Stephanie Horsley of Orlando, FL; Angela Holder of Winter Springs, FL and Jennifer Koger of Dallas, TX and one great grandson, Blake Holder.
