James J. Holden, age 84, formerly of Joplin, passed away at 3:12 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 in Mercy Hospital, Springfield after a sudden illness.
Born October 27, 1929 in the Chitwood community of Joplin, he was the son of the late Aaron and Rosie Waggoner Holden. He lived in Joplin his lifetime until moving to be near a daughter in Springfield following the 2011 Joplin tornado. James served in both the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force and was a Korean War Veteran. He was a licensed Real Estate Agent and Real Estate Appraiser. He was an avid fisherman.
On July 13, 1952 he married Patsy A. Jeter in Eureka Springs, AR. She survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Jim Holden of Joplin; two daughters, Kathy Firey and husband Sam of Joplin, Debbie Whitlock and husband Brad of Springfield; two grandchildren, Michael Holden of Joplin, Tamblyn Rowe of Oklahoma City; three great-grandchildren, Tori, Logan and Jade; two great-great-grandchildren, Ciera and Bella.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday at Parker Chapel with Rev. Charlie Burnett officiating. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with family serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. Monday until service time at the mortuary.
