James Albert Allen, age 87, of Seneca, MO passed away Monday, April 07, 2014 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, MO.
James was born June 13, 1926 to the late Albert E. and Helen Young Allen in rural Seneca, MO and lived in the area his entire life. At the age of 17, James left school to enlist in the United States Navy, serving during WWII. James worked in the automotive business throughout his life, owning and operating a Phillips 66 service station in Neosho, MO. After selling the station James worked for W.R. Grace for 25 years before retiring.
On March 21, 1954, James married Barbara Niles in Joplin, MO. She preceded him in death on December 26, 1994. He was also preceded in death by his parents; brother, Calvin Allen; sister, Lena Smith; one grandson, Christopher Lane Allen.
Survivors include his daughter, Annette Goodall and husband Bob of Joplin; sons, Michael Allen and wife Sherry of Duquesne, Kenneth Allen and wife Kathy of Collinsville, OK; brother, Leslie Dean Allen and wife Verba of Joplin; sisters, Retha Ketchum and husband Ray of Seneca, Ruby Ball and husband Bob of Springfield, MO, Edna Spain and husband Tom of Leavenworth, KS, Martha Bickel and husband Jim of Santa Barbara, CA, and Delma Volskay and husband Truman of Carthage; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and extended family that will miss James very much.
Services are planned for Friday, April 11, 2014 at Warren's Branch Baptist Church, Seneca, MO at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be Thursday, April 10, 2014 from 6-7 PM at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Arthritis Foundation in care of the mortuary.
