Wallace Floyd Payne, age 88 of Joplin, MO passed away at his home after a recent illness on Tuesday, April 21, 2014.
Wallace was born January 05, 1926 to the late Floyd E. Payne and Helen Miller Payne in De Smet, SD. He attended Texas A&M where he received his Bachelor's degree in engineering. Wallace was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving during WWII. He worked as an Electrical Engineer for Allgeier Martin and Eagle Pitcher before later becoming an independent contractor. Wallace was a member of the American Legion Post 13 of Joplin and St. Peter The Apostle Catholic Church of Joplin.
Wallace married Gladys Hernandez-Guzman Payne on April 30, 1954 in Barcelona, Venezuela. She survives of the home.
Additional survivors include three sons, Jorge Payne and wife Susan of East Lyme, CT, Greg Payne and wife Tammy of Carthage, Paul Payne of St. Louis; daughter, Patricia Moore and husband Rick of Joplin, daughter-in-law Ann Payne of Joplin; nine grandchildren, Christina and husband Cabot, Jonathan, Andrea, Katie, Nicole, Gabriela, Riley, Laken and Seagan; two great-grand children, Henry and Elliot; brother, Robert J. Payne of Webb City.
He is preceded in death by one daughter, Annelena Payne.
Memorial mass is planned for Friday at 4:00 p.m. at St. Peter’s.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
