(From Daniel Funeral Home)
Bill B. Woods, age 87, of rural Liberal, peacefully passed away Tuesday morning, July 25, 2017, surrounded by his family at home.
Bill was born September 3, 1929, at the family farm home in Barton County, Missouri, the son of George and Alice (Barr) Woods. He graduated from Lamar High School in 1947 and enlisted in the Regular Army in 1948, serving with the 6th Armed Cavalry Regiment in Germany. Returning home in 1952, Bill held several jobs including Hill Truck Lines and Lawn Boy before beginning his 34-year career with the U.S. Postal Service. After retiring, he had more time for raising cattle, camping and fishing at Stockton Lake, vacations out west, and enjoying the fellowship of his Metro Club friends. Bill considered his grandkids and great-grandkids to be his greatest blessing and time spent with his family was his greatest joy. He became a Christian in his later years and attended Iantha United Methodist Church. Always willing to give when he saw a need, Bill was a dedicated blood donor for the Red Cross.
On October 4, 1953, at Lamar, Bill married the love of his life, Audrey Marie Metcalf, and they made their home and raised their three children in Lamar. After sharing 58 years together, Audrey passed away December 7, 2011. He was also preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Lynden, Curtis, Howard, Gale and an infant brother; and six sisters, Thelma Wood, Lanta Lee Needham, Vida Workman, Leila Shields, Julia Thomas, and Sadie Goode.
Survivors include his son, Bill Woods, Lamar; two daughters, Glenna (Brian) Yike and Tina (Gene) Dearing, all of rural Liberal; seven grandchildren, Tarrah (Chad) Moore, Bo Dearing, Brock (Jacqueline) Dearing, Danielle Hukill, Brent Woods, Brooke Woods, and Drew Woods; seven great-grandchildren, Sydney, Cade, Ryley, and Chance Moore, Aiden Hukill, Joslyin Woods, and Johnathan Collins; and a large extended family.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 27th, at Daniel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Nashville Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Iantha Community Center/Iantha Methodist Church Building Fund or American Red Cross in care of the funeral home.
