Vera M. Jeffries, 88, Carthage, MO, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, MO. Vera Mae Paugh was born December 19, 1928 in Carthage, MO to the late Urban Paugh and Bealuh (North) Paugh. She graduated from Jasper High School, Class of 1946. Vera worked as a bookkeeper for Smallwood Gas Company for many years. She married Jesse Thomas Jeffries on November 14, 1948 in Lamar, MO; he preceded her in death on October 4, 2012. Vera was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Carthage.
Survivors include three daughters, Rella Jeffries, Joplin, MO, Keri Brown (husband Danny), Shell Knob, MO, Lana Smith, Pittsburg, CA; and one son, Kevin Jeffries (wife Barbara), Dallas, TX, eight grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one brother, Jeff Paugh.
Visitation will be held 10-11 am, Saturday, August 12, 2017 at First United Methodist Church, Carthage, with a service following at 11 am. Private family inurnment will follow the service at Hackney Cemetery, Carthage, MO. Rev. James Lee will officiate. Memorial gifts are suggested to First United Methodist Church or CAN DO Senior Center in care of Knell Mortuary, 308 W. Chestnut, Carthage, MO 64836.
