William Jess “Bill” Goodwin, Sr., age 82, of Webb City, Missouri, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2017, at his home.
Bill was born July 18, 1934, in Springfield, Missouri, to the late John Lloyd and Naomi Lena (Spencer) Goodwin. He was raised in Springfield before moving to Webb City in 1957, where he went to work for the Rex Metallic Casket Company. He later worked as a millwright for Safeway Bakery for thirteen years and then for the FAG Bearing Corporation. Bill was a very simple man. He enjoyed raising cattle on his land at home, restoring and driving his old cars, playing and listening to bluegrass music and having his daily coffee with his buddies.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Don, John, Jerry and Ned Goodwin; a sister, Sally Courtney; and a grandson, Nathaniel Smith.
Survivors include his four children; Tony Goodwin (Jennifer Bradley), William J. “Bill” Goodwin, Jr. and wife, Pam, Jeanie Powell and Bob Goodwin; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and five half-siblings, Harley, Sissy, Steve, Dale and Patty Goodwin; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Graveside services are 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at Mount Hope Cemetery in Webb City with Pastor Denny Carver officiating. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Tony Goodwin, Bill Goodwin, Jr., B.J. Goodwin, Denny Carver, Jack Clayton and Bill Olson. Visitation is 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, at Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home in Webb City. The family would like to extend a sincere thanks to Mercy Hospice and Bill’s caregivers for their assistance with his care.
Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of his grandchildren, William J. “B.J.” Goodwin, III, and Ashley Goodwin, of Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home, Webb City, Missouri.
