Jalene E. Howerton, 65, Carthage, MO, passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Freeman Hospital West, Joplin, MO. Jalene Ellen Mitchell was born September 8, 1951 in Moran, KS to James E. Mitchell and Kathryn (Balyard) Mitchell. She attended school in Moran, KS. Jalene married Ron Howerton on October 1, 1971 in Carthage, MO; he survives. She worked as a supervisor at Justin Boot for over 20 years.
Survivors include her husband, three daughters, Melissa Ellen Harris (husband Kevin), Carthage, MO, Rhonda Jean Wilhelm (husband John), Sheldon, MO, and Christina Lynn McDaniel, Mt. Juliet, TN; three brothers, Jim Mitchell (wife Diana), Noel, MO, Ed Mitchell (wife Sharon), Shell Knob, MO, and Johnny Mitchell (wife Lisa), Diamond, MO; one sister, Darlene Garroutte (husband Von), Diamond, MO; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Sherry Spilman.
Visitation will be held 6-7 p.m., Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Knell Mortuary. Private family services will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com. Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Knell Mortuary.
