Harold Woodrow “Woody” Montgomery, of Golden City, MO, departed this life on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, in Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO at the age of 95 years.
He was born on October 20, 1921 in rural Greene County, MO to Clovis and Mabel Gertrude (Johnson) Montgomery. Woody graduated from Lockwood High School in Lockwood, MO. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Woody was united in marriage to Dixie Lou Windes on February 14, 1942 in Dade County, MO. He retired from General Motors as a Quality Control Supervisor.
Woody loved fishing, playing golf, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals play baseball. He enjoyed playing poker with his family and friends at family gatherings. Woody was a Private First Class in the 490th Field Artillery Division. He was very proud of his military service.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Clovis and Mabel Montgomery; his wife, Dixie Montgomery; his infant sister, Mary Marie; one daughter, Peggy Sue Murphy; and one son-in-law, David Anthony Barrios.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy Barrios of Ozark, MO and Connie Kiblinger and husband Don of Strafford, MO; one sister, Phyllis Overman of San Jose, CA; son-in-law, Jim Murphy of Orange, CA; six grandchildren, Christine (Murphy) Serbia and husband Jim of Carlsbad, CA, Shawn Murphy of Buellton, CA, Michelle Barrios of Ozark, MO, Stephanie Barrios and Brandon Manes of Ozark, MO, Jean (Kiblinger) Rockafellow and husband Chris of Strafford, MO, and Cheri (Kiblinger) Cobb and husband Johnny of Strafford, MO; six great-grandchildren, Jamie Serbia, Megin Murphy, Cory Murphy, Jessica Rockafellow, Paige Rockafellow, and Garrett Cobb; and one great-great-grandchild, Amelia Murphy.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, July 21, 2017, in Greenfield Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery on Highway D northwest of Lockwood. The family will receive friends on Friday at 2:00 p.m. until service time in the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
