Shirley Ann Wano, age 69, of Joplin, Mo., passed away on Monday July 10, 2017, at Joplin Health & Rehab Center, following an illness.
Shirley was born on February 27, 1948 in Blackwell, Ok., the daughter of Alford G. and Bettye M. (Stratton) Hale. She married Jan Joseph Wano on December 26, 1966 and together they had four children. She was a Catholic. She moved to the Joplin area in 1989. She completed her bachelor of science degree in psychology at MSSU. She worked several years as a counselor at the Ozark Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jan Joseph Wano, on October 28, 2004; a daughter, Michelle Lynn Wano, in March of 1970; her father, Alford G. Hale; and one sister, Janice McGuire.
Shirley is survived by; one son, Dale Wano and wife Tonya, Carl Junction, Mo.; two daughters, Shaunna Wano, Joplin, and Ann Gregg and husband Levi, Springfield, Mo.; her mother, Bettye M. Hale, Columbia, Il.; one brother, Terry Hale and wife LaDonna, Blackwell, Ok.; one sister, Carolyn Christie and husband Elvis, Ft. Smith, Ar.; three grandchildren, Michelle Derringer and husband Zack ary, Brendan Gregg, and Isabelle Gregg; and two great-grandchildren, Ezra Derringer and Lillian Derringer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Reverend Justin Monaghan will officiate. Burial will be in Osborne Memorial Cemetery.
A Prayer Service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Mason-Woodard Chapel with a visitation to immediately follow. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Vincent DePaul Society in care of the mortuary.
