Mary Stotts

Mary J. Stotts, 78, a resident of Joplin, Missouri passed away at Freeman Health System in Joplin, on Tuesday, February 28, 2023. 

Mary was born on December 24, 1944, in Pittsburg, Kansas to Eugene and Della Sellars. Mary graduated from Southeast High School in Cherokee, Kansas in 1962. 

After raising a family, she attended the University of New Mexico Las Cruces where she graduated with a master’s degree in Sociology. She worked as a social worker for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services and for the Farm in Kansas.








Ms. Stotts attended the James River Church, in Joplin. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of 12; she read her Bible daily and never missed an opportunity to pray for someone or send an encouraging message. Ms. Stotts will be remembered as a loving friend, mother, and grandmother. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Della Sellars, and her brothers, Dan, Jim, Sam, and James Sellars. Ms. Stotts was joined in Heaven by her son, Chuck, a few hours after her passing.

Those left to share the beautiful memory of Mary are her children, Regina Rogers, Matt Stotts, and his wife Virginia, and Jennifer Stotts, all of Joplin, her daughter-in-law, Melinda Stotts, of Miami, Oklahoma, and her beloved sister, Becky Barnett, of Pittsburg, Kansas. 








Ms. Stotts had ten grandchildren, Zac Rogers, Cori Stotts, Jeremiah Rogers, Nicole Stotts, Jessica Rogers, Eugene Golden, Joshua Iglesias, Lynzi Stotts, Vanessa Stotts, Chance Stotts, and Madison Stotts. She had five nephews, thirteen nieces, and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Per Ms. Stotts’ request, there will not be a funeral. A Celebration of Life gathering will be announced at a future date. Her ashes will be placed in McCune Cemetery in Kansas. She has been placed under the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami, Oklahoma.
