Rodney Sallee

Rodney K Sallee was born November 11, 1943 in Neosho, Missouri. He died January 11, 2017, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin Missouri after a short illness. 

 He moved to Sterling, Colorado, with his family when a youth and was active in scouting and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Sterling high school in Sterling Colorado in 1961. He graduated from Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colorado, in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science in Forest and Range Management. 

 He married Ellen R. Williams in Fort Collins, Colorado, on March 26, 1966. He earned a Master of Public Administration degree from Cal State Bakersfield in 1982 and graduated from the Senior Executive Program at JFK school of Government, Harvard University in 1992. Rod began working for the US Forest Service in California in 1966 but was called to active service in the US Army. He served in the US Army from 1966 to 1969, attended Officer Candidate School at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and was stationed at Saigon, Vietnam, as a Combat Engineer Officer; he was awarded the Bronze Star. Upon completion of military service, Rod return to the US Forest Service in California and worked on the Stanislaus National Forest, the Six-Rivers National Forest, the Sequoia National Forest as District Ranger, and the Plumas National Forest as Deputy Forest Supervisor. His final assignment with the Forest Service was 1993 to 2006 at the Washington office in Washington DC; he retired in 2006 and moved to Neosho, Missouri. Rod was an active member of Calvary of Neosho Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and taught an adult Sunday school class. He was an avid birder and banded Golden Eagles and Prairie Falcons in Colorado during high school and college. He was active in the Ozark Gateway Audubon Society in Joplin and was a past president of that chapter. He and his wife traveled numerous places in the world to observe birds and other wildlife. 

 Rodney is survived by his wife, Ellen of Neosho, MO; brother, Greg (Kathy) Sallee, Neosho, MO; sisters, Pam Wottge (Ben), Broomfield, CO, and Beth Milburn (Bruce), Lakewood, CO. He is preceded in death by his parents, Elden and Carole (Stauffer) Sallee and a brother, Stephen E. Sallee. 

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 15, 2017 from 2:00-3:00 pm at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho, MO. Graveside services will be held on Monday, January 16, 2017 at 10:00 am in the Stone Cemetery, Diamond, MO with Rev. Roger Brumley officiating. The casket will be closed at all times. Memorial contributions in memory of Rodney may be made to the Calvary Baptist Acts 1:8 C/o Clark Funeral Home, P.O. Box 66, Neosho, MO 64850-0066. Services are under the direction of Clark Funeral Home, Neosho, MO.
