Ruby Lea Wetzel, age 86, of Southwest City, Missouri passed away peacefully January 28, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Ruby was born November 10, 1930 to the late Mark and Edith (Hubbard) Drake in Southwest City, Missouri. Ruby lived most of her life in the Southwest City area and on January 10, 1950 she was united in marriage to Claude Wetzel in Miami, OK and to this union three children were born. She worked for Hudson Foods for over 30 years. Ruby or “Granny” as she liked to be called enjoyed collecting cookbooks, baking and going to flea markets and garage sales, but most of all she enjoyed being a prankster.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, a son-in-law; Paul Bates, two great grandchildren, two sisters and four brothers.
Ruby is survived by two daughters; Diana Bates and Donna Blake and husband Rick of Southwest City, Missouri, a son; David Wetzel and wife Cheryl of Jay, Oklahoma, two brothers; Kenneth Drake of Pineville, MO and Doug Drake of Jay, OK, two sisters; Anna Laura Cabe of Okmulgee, OK and Barbara Bratton of Spavinaw, OK, nine grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby “Granny” Wetzel will be held Thursday February 2, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Southwest City, Missouri with Pastors Ricky Williams and Rob Grimm officiating. Burial will follow in the Southwest City Cemetery in Southwest City, MO. Her grandsons will be honored to serve their "Granny" as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at the Ozark Funeral Home in Southwest City, MO from 6 until 8 p.m.
