Howard Lee Van Buren, age 70, Joplin, passed away at 6:35 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2017 in Peculiar, Missouri after an illness.
Howard was born October 13, 1946 in Carthage to the late Floyd Van Buren and Lois Jones Van Buren and had lived in the area all of his life.
He worked as a carpenter and owned and operated Van Buren Construction Company for over twenty years. Howard enjoyed everything about the outdoors, hunting and fishing, but his favorite times were spent with his family.
Howard was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War.
He married Nada Freij on May 24, 1970 in Sarcoxie. She survives at the home.
Additional survivors include his children, Cliff Van Buren and wife, Laura, Peculiar, Missouri, Clint Van Buren, Joplin, Tonia Van Buren, Joplin, Tina Olson and husband, William, Joplin; two grandchildren, Chloe and Graham and a sister, Donna Boswell, Sarcoxie.
In addition to his parents, Howard was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Ava Renee Van Buren and a sister, Marilyn Cameron.
A visitation is planned for Wednesday from 6-7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, in care of Parker Mortuary.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
