Darrell Wayne Johnson, age 53, of Liberal, Missouri, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2017, at The University of Kansas Hospital after suffering a stroke Friday morning.
Darrell was born January 30, 1963, in Siloam Springs, Arkansas and had also lived in Oklahoma before moving to Missouri in 1995. He was an over-the-road trucker for fifteen years, seven of those years driving for Don Leaming Trucking. An avid outdoorsman, Darrell enjoyed fishing, camping, and horseback riding. He was a talented woodworker and a shade tree mechanic. His morning card games were lessons in sportsmanship sprinkled with laughter and love. Above all else, Darrell was a devoted father and grandfather who could be counted on to help anyone in need.
On February 15, 1995, at Mt. Vernon, Missouri, Darrell married Lisa Shelton, and she survives, of the home. Also surviving are four sons, Robert, Michael, Kelly and Joesph; four daughters, Jessica, Amber, Brandy, and Holly; a sister, Juanita Hogshooter; many grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and a large extended family.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, John and Edna Mae (Ames) Johnson; a son, Cody, in 2015; two brothers, Charles Johnson and Hubert Ray Johnson; and two sisters, Geraldine Lewellen and Wilma Jean Davidson.
The family will receive friends at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 31st at Daniel Funeral Home. Rocky Lemmons will officiate an informal service to honor Darrell with shared memories beginning at 6:00 p.m. – please come prepared to tell your favorite “Darrell Story”.
