Harold Thompson

Harold R. Thompson, 89, Carthage, MO, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Mercy Hospital Joplin. Harold was born November 9, 1927 in Webb City, MO to A.M. Thompson and Myrtle (Hilligoss) Thompson. He was a graduate of Carthage Senior High School, Class of 1945 and later graduated from Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, KS, with a degree in Industrial Education. Harold married Helen Turner on December 16, 1949 in Webb City, MO; she preceded him in death on August 30, 2006. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1947, as a Navy Pilot. He then worked as a Materials Inspector for MODOT from 1955 until his retirement in 1989. Harold was a member of the First Christian Church, where he was very active in their Hospital Equipment Program since 1994.

Survivors include one daughter, Sandy Baker Alumbaugh (husband Wes), Carthage, MO; one son, Terry Thompson, Houston, TX; one sister, Kay Hamilton, Murphysboro, IL; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. He is also survived by his very special friend, Pat Brown.

He is preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and a son-in-law, Steve Baker.

Visitation will be held 2:00 – 3:00 p.m., Sunday, January 29, 2017 at Knell Mortuary. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 30, 2017 in the Knell Mortuary Chapel. Minister John Mouton will officiate. Interment will follow in Park Cemetery. Memorial gifts are suggested to the Hospital Equipment Fund in care of Knell Mortuary, 308 W.
