Rev. Jim Williams

Reverend James A. Williams, 73, Carthage, MO, passed away Saturday evening, January 21, 2017 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, MO, with his family at his bedside. James “Jim” Alfred Williams was born October 16, 1943 in Carterville, MO, a son of the late Paul Roland Williams and Opal Vina (Boyd) Williams. He graduated from Joplin High School in 1961, and received a Master of Theology Degree from Luther Rice Seminary. Jim married Grace Ann Rainey on November 9, 1962 in Joplin, MO; she survives. Jim and Grace moved to Colorado where he managed an A&A Trading Post and Bandimere Auto. He was involved in numerous church, community, and mission endeavors. In 1975, he founded and pastored the Southside Free Will Baptist Church in Denver, CO, and in 1983, he moved to Missouri to start the Free Will Baptist Church of Carthage, where he pastored until the time of his passing.

Jim is survived by his wife, Grace; one son, Dennis Williams (wife Angela), Carthage, MO; two daughters, Denise Wagner (husband Chris), Carthage, MO and Tammi Brinkhoff (husband Brian), Jasper, MO; thirteen grandchildren, Samantha Williams, Amanda Schmidt (husband Stephen), Thaddeus “Tadd” Wagner (wife Kate), JoHanna Brinkhoff, Joel Williams, Kirsten Wagner, Mitchell Wagner, Nathaniel Brinkhoff, Jonathan Brinkhoff (wife Emily), Nicholas Duke Wagner, Josiah Brinkhoff, Daniel Brinkhoff, and David Brinkhoff; three great-grandchildren, Judah Schmidt, Skylar Schmidt, and Winnie Wagner; and two sisters, Ruth Ann Reynolds (husband Charles), Joplin, MO and Paula Sue McClure (husband John), Springfield, TN.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Christian Wagner.

Visitation will be held 6-7 p.m., Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Free Will Baptist Church, 18715 Hyacinth Rd., Carthage, MO 64836. Rev. Brian Brinkhoff will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Carterville Cemetery, Carterville, MO. Memorial gifts are suggested to the MO State Association for Free Will Baptist Missions in care of Knell Mortuary, 308 W.
