Marilynn E. Barnes, age 81 of Joplin, went to her heavenly home on Friday, January 20, 2017.
Marilynn was born September 18, 1935 in Pittsburg, Kansas to the late Arthur Fitzwater and Clella "Deane" Forbes and later moved to Joplin where she called home. Marilynn worked for the Joplin R-8 School District as a cook. She faithfully attended Calvary Baptist Church for many years and was the treasurer of her Sunday School class, The Chapel Searchers. She was also famous for her apple pie. Marilynn was a member of A.R.M.E.S and the Retired Teachers Association.
She married Milton "Dee" Barnes on September 23, 1951 in Joplin. He preceded her in death on October 4, 2010.
Surviving Marilynn are her children, Debbie Loop and husband, Lee of Carthage, Pam Bowzer and husband, John of Joplin; daughter in-law, Katrina Barnes of Joplin; 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; sister in-law, Linda Ross and husband, Larry; plus numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Two sons, Richard Barnes and Randy Barnes have preceded Marilynn in death.
Funeral services are planned for Tuesday, January 24 at 10:00 a.m. at The Church at Brookwood, formerly, Calvary Baptist Church of Joplin with Rev. Brandon Dorris, officiating. Family will receive friends on Monday from 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at the mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to either American Heart Association or Joplin Humane Society, both in care of the mortuary.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
