Zelma Zebert

Zelma Zebert, 99, of Joplin, Missouri, departed this life on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri, after a brief illness.

Zelma entered this life on January 24, 1917, on a farm in Ottawa County, Oklahoma, near Wyandotte, one of seven children born to the union of the late Anton and Dorothy (Hagedorn) Zebert. She resided in Sikeston and Monett, Missouri, before moving to Joplin, Missouri, in the 1960’s. For several years, she was employed by the Catholic Diocese as a secretary and housekeeper. Zelma’s life was centered around servanthood. She was a longtime faithful member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Joplin and avid supporter of the Joplin Area Catholic Schools. She enjoyed volunteer work, baking and caring for her yard and flowerbeds.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Leonard, Donald and Otis Zebert.

Zelma is survived by her three siblings, Harold Zebert and wife, Pat, of Bothell, Washington, Bernice Healy of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Nadine Woodall of Harlingen, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial for Zelma is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 12, 2017, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Father J. Friedel officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Webb City, Missouri. A Rosary and Prayer Service will be held on Wednesday evening beginning at 6:30 p.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with visitation following until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials are being directed to St. Peter’s Catholic Church c/o the mortuary.
