Eula Spencer

Mrs. Eula Lettie (Heifner) Spencer, 93, of Joplin, Missouri departed this life on January 24, 2017, at Joplin Health and Rehabilitation Center in Joplin, Missouri, after a recent decline in health.

Eula entered this life on March 14, 1923, in Jerico Springs, Cedar County, Missouri. The youngest of two children born to the late Walter G. and Bertha A. (Farmer) Heifner. She lived around the Joplin/Webb City area most of her life, returning there many times after traveling around the US and Middle East with her family for her husband’s work.

In October, 1944 she was united in marriage to William R. Spencer and to this union four sons were born. She worked in the aircraft manufacturing business before the marriage and for some years after the marriage before becoming a full time homemaker.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oronogo for several years. She loved her sons and always made sure they looked their best as young children. She brought them up knowing God and to respect their elders. She was a wonderful mother and taught her sons good life lessons that molded them into what they are today. She loved having her entire family home for the holidays and serving full meals on those occasions.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of almost 50 years, William R. Spencer; a son, John L. Spencer; and her brother, Archie Don Heifner.

Eula is survived by three sons; Richard Spencer and wife Diana, of Golden, Missouri, Randy Spencer and wife Leaf, of St. Petersburg, Florida, Ronnie Spencer and wife Teresa, of Owasso, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, Travis, Adam, Danny, Anissa, Holly, Beth, Stephanie, Stacy, and Qinyan; 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and other family and friends.



Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday January 27, 2017 at the Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home with Pastor Darin Youngberg officiating. Burial will follow at the Nashville Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 1:00 pm Friday prior to the service.
