Claud R. Daniels, age 91, of Joplin, Mo., passed away on Wednesday March 14, 2018, at Mercy Hospital, following an illness.
Claud was born on May 15, 1926 in Henryetta, Okla., the son of the late Jesse and Emma (Kelly) Daniels. He graduated from Joplin High School a member of the ‘class of 1944’. The day after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He graduated from Basic Navy training in 1944 in Farragut, Idaho. He served his country in WWII on the naval ship USS Borie.
He married Joann Hughes and together they made their home near Diamond, Mo, where they raised three children. He worked forty years as a postal clerk at the Joplin Post Office, retiring on November 30, 1990. He served as president of the local APWU for over twenty years. He also served as state president of the APWU. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #534. He loved fishing, traveling, listening to country music, and going to horse races and casinos. Claud not only enjoyed life he appreciated it.
He lost the love of his life, Joann Daniels on August 21, 2010. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Frankie Daniels and Junior Kelly; and one sister Gracie Breeden.
He is survived by two daughters, Claudia Schlegel (Stan, Sr.), Greenville, Tn., and Cindy Hartner (Mike), Diamond, Mo.; one son, Scott Daniels, Gulfport, Ms.; seven grandchildren, Stanley Schlegel, Jr. (Sharon), Christy Roets (Preston), Kelsey Bisset, (Sam), Alyssa Drummond (Jake), Caleb Daniels, Joshua Daniels, and Hannah Daniels; four great-grandchildren, Claudia Schlegel, Treyton Roets, Kamden Roets, and Paxton Drummond; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Reverend Jeff Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Osborne Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6-7 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
