Philip Rand Howell, 77, of Verona, MO, passed away on Friday evening, March 30, 2018, while at the Aurora Nursing Center in Aurora, MO.
Philip was born on January 10, 1941 in Carthage, MO, son of the late Charles E. and Ladye Madge (Beckum) Howell. On February 7, 1958, Philip enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country honorably during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Philip taught water survival to air crews and served as a rescue diver while deployed in Spain and Africa. He was discharged from active duty on October 31, 1961. For many years, Philip was employed at Eagle Picher, where he was involved with NASA projects. Lastly, he taught manufacturing technology at Crowder College, retiring in 2000. Philip attended the McDowell Community Church.
On January 15, 2002, Philip married Lois Ann (Manning). They have been blessed with over sixteen years of wonderful memories made together.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Ann Howell, of the home; three sons, Philip R. Howell II and wife Marci, of Lexington, N.C., Mark Scott, of Carthage, MO and Dustin Terry, of Purdy, MO; two daughters, Holly Tubbs and husband Dusty, of Verona and Shonda Madison and husband Bud, of Pierce City, MO; one brother, George Howell, of Carthage, MO; one sister, Barbara Kay Musgrove and husband Tom, of Carl Junction, MO; one sister-in-law, JoAnn Howell, of Sedalia, MO; four grandchildren, Logan Jarett Howell, Lane and Hunter Madison and Burgundy Grace Tubbs; and a host of extended family and friends.
Philip was preceded in death by his first wife, Stirlene Mae (Jones) Howell; one son, Steven Scott; and four brothers, Charles, Jack, Meredith and Keith Howell.
Graveside services for Mr. Howell will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield. Reverend Kenneth Carney will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
