Joe D. Boyd, 76, Carthage, MO, passed away late Thursday evening, March 8, 2018 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, MO. Joe David Boyd was born July 19, 1941 in Cabot, AR to the late Wilber E. Boyd and Emma (Webb) Boyd. He graduated from Jacksonville High School, Class of 1959. He received his Masters in Education from the University of Arkansas in 1971. He worked as a guidance counselor at Carthage Senior High until his retirement in 2000. Joe married Judy Ann Westbrook on January 5, 1961 in Poteau,OK; she survives. He attended the First United Methodist Church, Carthage.
Over the years Joe met many nurses & medical personnel whom he admired and appreciated greatly. He had a very special connection to the nurses at Mercy Cancer Clinic, he had taken time to know about each one and thought very highly of them. The comfort and great care of the nursing staff both in the infusion center and the ICU, will forever be appreciated by all his family.
Survivors include two daughters, Tara L. Wattelet (Frank), Joplin, MO, and Teresa L. Lazenby (Daniel), Little Rock, AR; three sons, Kent Boyd (Doris), Carthage, MO, David Boyd (Shawn), Carthage, MO, and Ali Khairghadam, Silver Spring, MD; three brothers, Wilber Boyd (Betty), Mountain City, TN, Kenneth Boyd (Barbara), Cabot, AR, and Glen Boyd (Phyllis), Cabot, AR; two sisters, Irma Jean Barrett (Don), Huntsville, AL, and Annette Hammons (Johnnie), Cabot, AR; twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son-in-law, Karl L. Zaerr, and one granddaughter, Amanda L. Boyd.
Visitation will be held 2-3 pm, Saturday, March 17, 2018 at First United Methodist Church, Carthage. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com.
