Virginia Shelton

Mrs. Virginia Lee Bickford Shelton, 71, of Goodman, Missouri, departed this life on Monday evening, March 26, 2018, at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, Missouri, after suffering an apparent heart attack.

Virginia entered this life on May 19, 1946, in Rocky Comfort, Missouri, daughter of the late George Wesley and Ruth Elizabeth (Jones) Myers. She was a lifelong resident of McDonald County Missouri. On February 14, 1964 she was united in marriage to James H. Bickford, Sr. and to this union four sons were born. Virginia believed in hard work. She worked for Big Smith and Tyson Foods before retiring from La-Z-Boy. Retirement was not for Virginia. At the time of her passing she was employed by McDonald's in Neosho. In her spare time she enjoyed quilting, crocheting and woodworking projects.

James preceded her in death on January 19, 2012. She was also preceded by four siblings, Junior Myers, Raymond Myers, Alta Rose Robertson and Barbara Bickford.

On March 4, 2016, she married Ron Shelton and he survives of Diamond, Missouri. Virginia is survived by her four sons, Tony Bickford and wife, Marilyn, of Diamond, Gregory Bickford of Goodman, Melvin Bickford and wife, Ronda, of Goodman and James H. Bickford, Jr. and wife, Patricia, of Neosho; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two sisters, Rhonda Bickford and husband, Pete, of Goodman and Georgia McCumber of Joplin; a brother, Pete Myers and wife, Tina, of Marshfield, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services for Virginia will be held graveside on Friday, March 30, 2018, at the Howard Cemetery in Goodman, Missouri, at 2:00 pm with Pastor Mark Bickford officiating. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Tony Bickford, Greg Bickford, James Bickford, Pete Myers, Vince House and Gaylen Shelton. Cleo House, III, Lonnie Duncan and Scott Shelton will be serving as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5-7:00 p.m. in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes.
