John Albert Durbin, age 62, Carl Junction, passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2018, at his home after a sudden illness.
John was born June 25, 1955, in Joplin, son of the late Elmo Gabe Durbin and Earl Dean Baker Durbin. He graduated from Memorial High School in 1973, and worked for years with St. John's/Mercy in the food service department. He was very talented as an artist, both oil painting, and recently with computer designed works. He was also very knowledgeable of local history. He has written several articles on Carl Junction, Jasper County, and Joplin history, many of which were published. He was a lifelong member of Carl Junction Baptist Church. He was very talented in several different areas, but his greatest accomplishment was his devotion to caring for his mother, Earl Dean, over the years.
Survivors include his brothers, Gabriel Durbin and wife Reta of Carthage, and Jim Durbin and wife Brenda of Joplin ; nieces, Jessica Weber and husband Brett, Emily Durbin, and Caitlin Andrus and husband John, all of Joplin; great-nieces, Mia Durbin, Ema Durbin, and Scout Weber; great-nephew, Milo Weber; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Memorial services will be Monday, March 26, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Carl Junction with Rev. Russell Roderick officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service at the church.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to John's church.
