(From Daniel Funeral Home)
Margie Marie Bethke, age 86, of Lamar, passed away Friday morning, March 9, 2018, surrounded by her family at her home.
Margie was born February 12, 1932, in Cleveland, Missouri, second of the six children of William and Agnes (Blake) Stoner. Much of her childhood was spent in Jerico Springs before her family moved to Barton County where Margie attended Lamar High School and worked at the Plaza Theater. Shortly after graduation, on May 29, 1949, Margie married Leo Buck “Doc” Taylor and they made their home and raised their six children in California. Doc suffered a heart attack and passed away May 12, 1973. On November 23, 1980, Margie married Wilfred Bethke and they shared 23 years together before his passing on March 6, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Bill, James, and Bobby Stoner; two sisters, Peggy Johnson and Pauline Owens; a son, Herbie Taylor; and three grandchildren.
In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Margie worked for many years at Chevron Chemical Plant. She made her home a warm and wonderful place for family to gather and enjoy the challenge of dominos or a rousing card game. After moving back to Lamar in 1997, she continued this family tradition and added enjoyable day trips to area casinos. Her keen interest in genealogy led her to become the family historian and she compiled a meticulous, detailed record of her family's ancestry.
Survivors include two sons, Jimmy (Martha) Taylor, Brentwood, California and William (Vanessa) Taylor, Lamar; three daughters, Shirley (Alfred) Martinez, Carla Brooks, and Teresa (Ron) Eads, all of Lamar; a brother-in-law, Monte Owens, Lamar; a sister-in-law, Betty Stoner, Clinton, Missouri; 19 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a large extended family.
The family will receive friends at a memorial visitation from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 15th at Daniel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Lake Cemetery at a later date.
