George W. Hughes, Jr., 94, Neosho, passed away peacefully at Spring Hill Residential Care on March 29, 2018.
George was born April 13, 1923 in Lamar, MO, the son of George W. Hughes, Sr. and Icephena A. (Kirkland). George married June Mead on Aug. 3, 1942 in Barton County, MO and she preceded him in death on April 8, 2012. George and June moved to the Neosho area in 1954 from Liberty, MO. He had been a general superintendent for the Goodman Church Builders for many years. He and June were owners and operators of the H and H Fabric on the Neosho square until their retirement in 1995. He was a member of the Neosho United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, working in his yard and he loved to cook.
He is survived by a son, Gerald Hughes and wife, Lindell, Neosho;a sister, Etta June Surratt, AZ, two grandchildren, Dallas Hughes and wife, Melanie, Roswell, GA and Darla Farley and husband, Bubby, Neosho; four great grandchildren, Shallon Hughes, Taylor Hughes, Kelsie Fields and Dustin Farley; two great great grandchildren, Morgan N. Hughes and Michael D. Hughes and baby Fields on the way. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by two brothers; Charles Hughes and James Leroy Hughes.
Services will be Tues., April 3, 2018 at 11 am at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, Rev. Douglas Surratt, nephew will officiate. Visitation will be prior to the service at 10 am until service time at 11.
Graveside services will be at 2 pm at the Morehead Cemetery, Barton Co., MO near Lamar, MO and grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions in memory of George be made to the Neosho United Methodist Church, c/o Clark Funeral Home, PO Box 66, Neosho, MO 64850.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clark Funeral Home, Neosho, MO.
