Margie Lucille (Marsden) Per of Webb City, Mo. passed away on Saturday, March 24th, 2018 at the age of 88, following a short illness. Beloved mother, grandmother and “GG”, Margie was born on April 19th, 1929 to George W. & Myrtle L. (Mellinger) Marsden.
She was a 1948 graduate of Carthage High School, where she was a drum majorette, and finished her formal education while living in Washington state.
Margie married Joe D. Per on December 13th, 1952 in Bentonville, Ar. They were married 46 years at the time of his death.
Margie blazed the trail for working women. While working for Welch’s Grape Juice in the Tri-Cities area of Washington, she became the first woman regional sales manager. After moving back to Missouri, she worked for Atlas Powder Company for 36 years, retiring in 1986 as the cost accountant for the nitrogen section. In addition to working outside the home, she was active with PTA and 4-H. She loved the farm life and was never happier than when she was driving the grain trucks and bailing hay.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents. Survivors include her daughter; Clarissa McCoy and husband Brian of Webb City, grandson; Joe McCoy and wife Carissa, and two great-grandsons; Joey and Jared, also of Webb City, sister; Clara Bentley of Webb City, sister-in-law, Stevie Eidson of Avilla, Mo., many nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, Abby.
In lieu of flowers, please make any donations available to the Joplin Humane Society in care of the mortuary.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 28th, 2018 at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. The family will receive friends during a time of visitation prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday.
