Helen “Jenny” Virginia Kitch, age 78 of Galena, passed away at her home surrounded by her family at 9:40 PM on Monday, March 12, 2018.
Helen was born on November 28, 1939 in Hyannis, Mass to Harry Coulson and Leonora Josephine “Nonnie” Knowles, and was later adopted by James Degnan. She attended high school in Massachusetts before moving to Galena, KS in 1965.
While in Galena, she had worked as a clerk for Schwartz Drug Store and Joseph’s Convenience Store. She retired from St. John’s as an Environmental Supervisor. During her free time, she enjoyed Bingo, Knitting, and crocheting.
Helen was preceded in death by her father, Harry Coulson; her mother, Leonora Degnan; her dad, James Degnan; one sister, Christine Olson; and two grandsons, Brad Price and Jack Kitch.
Survivors include three sons, Tommy Kitch (wife, Deb) of Carl Junction, MO; Gary “Michael” Kitch of Galena, KS, and Bradley Kitch of Enterprise, AL; one daughter, Wanda Shoemaker (husband, Mark) of Reading, KS; nine grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and a half-brother, Brian Coulson of Orleans, MA.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 16, 2018 at Oak Hill of Galena. Visitation will take place on Thursday, March 15, 2018 from 7-8:00 PM at Derfelt Funeral Home of Galena.
