Gary Sorenson

Mr. Gary Wayne Sorensen, 82, of Pineville, Missouri, departed this life on Thursday, March 22, 2018, at Highlands Health Care Center in Bella Vista, Arkansas, after a recent decline in health.

Gary entered this life on July 3, 1935, in Las Vegas, Nevada, son of the late William Justin and Hazel Pearl (Harrison) Sorensen. He was raised in Las Vegas and was a 1953 graduate of Las Vegas High School. On December 7, 1962, he was united in marriage to Grace Clausen and brought with him his two oldest daughters, to this union three more children were born. Gary was a firefighter for thirty-six years, retiring in 1992, as Battalion Chief with the City of Las Vegas Fire Department. He was also employed by Caesars Palace in their security detail for a number of years and served in the Naval Reserves. After retirement he and Grace moved to Pineville, Missouri. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading and watching Fox News. Gary was a member of the Anderson Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Morgan and Clare Sorensen; and one sister, Margaret Anna Brode. 

Gary is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Grace Sorensen of the home; five children, Sharon Cicchetti and husband, Steven, of Chula Vista, California, Connie Lynne Wilkerson and husband, Doug, of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Gary Wayne Sorensen II and wife, Victoria, of Tampa, Florida, Hazel Florence Tibbitts and husband, David, of Bountiful, Utah and William Alexander Sorensen and Glenda White of Pineville; seventeen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; a brother, William Delbert Sorensen of Boulder City, Nevada; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends. 

Funeral services for Mr. Sorensen are 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at the Anderson Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop Taylor Duersch officiating. Burial will follow in the Peace Valley Cemetery in Anderson. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Gary W. Sorensen II, William Sorensen, Michael Terry, Austin White, Toby Henson and Doug Wilkerson. John Clausen, Jeff Diamond, Glenn Perkins, Paul Hutchins and Loren Niblett will be serving as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Wednesday morning at 9:00 a.m. at the church.
