Dewey Wayne Gant, 85, of Pittsburg, KS, passed away Friday, June, 22, 2018, at Medicalodges of Pittsburg.
He was born November 15, 1932, in Chanute, KS, the son of Clarence Frank and Lillian Mae (Dewey) Gant.
Dewey enlisted in the United States Navy from 1950 to 1953 and then served in the United States Air Force from 1953 to 1959. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving on the U.S.S. Rupertus.
He was a truck driver for over 45 years, including 21 years for Pitt Plastics.
On September 8, 1980, he was united in marriage to LaWanda Laird. She preceded him in death on April 4, 2008.
He is survived by a step-son, Kevin Laird of Unicoi, TN; a step-daughter, Lisa Frayer of Mindenmines, MO; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Gant is preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers, two sisters, two step-sons, Brian Lee Laird and Todd Laird, two step-daughters, Penny Delmez, and Tina Jo Laird.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at the Brenner Mortuary with Reverend Jim Sukraw officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m., Tuesday at the Brenner Mortuary. The family suggests memorials to the Pittsburg VFW.
