Grace (Wiggins) McCoy, age 93, of Duenweg, Mo., passed away Monday, June 18, 2018, at Freeman West Hospital following an illness.
She was born on July 13, 1924, in Dawson, Ga., the daughter of Charles R. and Annie Ruth (Shaw) Wiggins.
Grace worked as a manager in housewares for Montgomery Ward for 16 years and then at Sears for 10 years.
She married Paul McCoy on September 23, 1969, in Ft. Collins, Colo. Grace was a member of the First Baptist Church of Duenweg. She was class president at Plains High School Class of 1941 in Plains, Ga. where President Jimmy Carter boasted that she was his president before he was hers, and they remained lifelong friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Paul; her parents; five brothers; and three sisters, Survivors include three sons, Ed Warthen and wife, Brenda, of Joplin, Mo., Mervin Warthen, of Neosho, Mo., and Melvin Warthen and wife, Lorri, of Visalia, Calif,; two daughters, Marshell Spoonmore, of Moulton, Iowa and Melanie Edge and husband, Dennis, of Diamond, Mo.; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 22, at the First Baptist Church of Duenweg with Greg Gooch officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Duenweg.
Private family inurnment will be held at the Stone Cemetery at a later date. The family suggests contributions to the First Baptist Church of Duenweg in care of the mortuary.
