Velda L. Wood was born June 25, 1927 in Granby, the daughter of Ted E. and Betty L. (Vance) Hatcher. She entered into rest on June 6, 2018 in Neosho, following an extended illness at the age of 90 years, 11 months and 12 days.
Velda was a lifelong area resident and graduated from Granby High School as salutatorian of her graduating class. She had worked at the Newton County Collector's office and worked beside her husband on the family farm. Velda received the Silver Service Award from the Missouri Lt. Governor for her volunteerism with the Alzheimer's Association, she was a former member of the County Extension Service and was an avid antique tractor enthusiast. She was a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ.
Velda and Ernest Harold Wood were married on June 16, 1945 in Granby and he preceded her in death on May 25, 2005. She is survived by three children, Gene Wood and wife, Cindy of St. Charles, MO; Judy Dorris and husband, Jerry of Sturtevant, WI and Mary Jane Flint and husband, Barry of Granby; seven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a sister, Reta Fullerton and grandson, Adam Wood.
