(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)Florence Carolyn Umback Dahms was born during the depression and drought of the Dakotas in 1938 to Charles H. & Cathryn H. Umback. Her father worked for the Federal Government and the family was transferred often throughout the Dakotas.
When the rains came and World War II was over, the family moved back to their farm in Orange Township, Adams County, ND. Florence attended a one-room country schoolhouse until junior high when her parents sent her to live with her grandmother.
Florence graduated from high school in Lemmon, SD and from South Dakota State University with B.S. degrees in Mathematics and Natural Science in 1959. She taught math in Lake Benton, MN while her to-be husband, Arthur Dahms was finishing his B.S. in Engineering. They married in Brookings, SD in 1960 moving to Illinois where they moved often as Art was transferred. Florence taught math in Hinsdale, IL. Their daughter Becky and son Scott were born in IL and Florence was blessed to be a stay-at-home mom, being a jack of all trades raising the children.
After 18 years, Art was transferred to Colorado where the children graduated from high school and moved onto college. Florence then became a one-person employee for a dentist for 12 years.
After 17 years in Denver, Art and Florence retired, moved to Oklahoma and then Loma Linda following the grandchildren so they could be part of their lives.
