(From Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home)William (Bill) Pete Hamilton, M.D., 90, died on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at his home in Verona, Missouri, surrounded by his family.
Dr. Hamilton is survived by his wife, of 67 years, Shirley, of the home, his son, Rick (Deb) of Carthage, Missouri, and daughters, Christi (Dave) Thomas of Aurora, Missouri, Amy (Joel) Wells of Harrison, Arkansas and Jill (Jason) Dlugopolski of McLouth, Kansas, 8 grandkids – Ben, Ashley, Kyle, Cheyenne, Savannah, Sabrina, Kharisma, Aaliyah and 4 great-grandkids – Magnus, Briley, Gabby and Grayson, one sister, Pam Musick and Steve Chancy of Pittsburg, Kansas, and a host of nieces and nephews and his beloved dogs.
Dr. Hamilton was born on August 4, 1932, in Franklin, Kansas, to James Hamilton and Julia (Morettini) Hamilton. He graduated from Pittsburg State University and went on to the University of Kansas to receive his medical degree.
He began his career in Tacoma, Washington, with his internship and then went on to serve in the U.S. Public Health Service on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation with the Sioux Indian Nation in Pine Ridge, South Dakota. He moved to Aurora, Missouri, and opened his family practice in 1960, retired in 1994 and then continued filling in at a clinic in Springfield, Missouri, for several years.
He served on the Aurora City Council, was a member of the Lions Club, the American Academy of Family Physicians and Flying Physicians Association, past recipient of the Aurora Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award and active in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He enjoyed bird hunting, golf, conservation projects and travelling as the top of his many interests.
In accordance with the family’s wishes there will be no public service or memorial service and if you choose, any donations can be directed to Hospice Compassus of Monett, Missouri. Arrangements are under the direction of the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home in Aurora.
