Elwood Fisher

James Elwood Fisher transitioned from life on this earth to his eternal home on January 18, 2024. He was born on March 3, 1932, to his parents, Martha (Nolte) Fisher and Forest Fisher. Elwood graduated from Hughesville High School, Hughesville, Missouri in 1950. 

He met the love of his life, Doris Eichholz, married her on May 1, 1951 and proceeded to have four wonderful children, James, Daniel, Cherie and Yvette.







Elwood was an accomplished, well respected businessman who held various positions in the grain elevator and real estate industries and was well known as an all around handyman. Elwood's first and foremost job was as a husband and father. He was a great husband and caregiver to Doris. Elwood and Doris enjoyed a truly extraordinary marriage of over 68 years. He taught his children faith, grace, hope, strength, perseverance and dignity. He was universally known as a pleasure to be with, smart and outgoing. Elwood was treasured by his family and will be missed by his family and friends for his kindness and generosity and for his love and devotion to God.

Elwood became a Christian and was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Lamar, Missouri, where he served as a deacon and volunteered his time for Meals on Wheels and several other charitable organizations. Elwood had a deep and abiding faith in God, which he shared and passed down to his children. He was devoted husband to his adoring wife and dedicated loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a fine example of what a father should be to his children.

Elwood is survived by sons, James (Jocelyn) Fisher and Daniel (Susan) Fisher; two daughters, Cherie (Paul) Rondinelli and Yvette (Dave) Webb; a brother, William (Merle) Fisher; a sister, Virginia (Eddie) Schouten; nine grandchildren, Forest (Jessie) Fisher, Richard Fisher, Christin Webb, Brian Webb, Jeremy (Angie) Webb, Timothy Fisher, Naomi (James) Stray, Benjamin (Caroline) Fisher and Lydia (Robert) Hubbard; and ten great-grandchildren.






 

Elwood was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; his parents; a sister, Lunetta Newel and a brother, Anthony Fisher.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 16, 2024 at the First Baptist Church of Lamar, MO. An inurnment will be held at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sedalia, Missouri.

Memorial donations are suggested to the Missouri Baptist Children's Home in care of the funeral home.
