Richard Edwards

Richard “Bubsy” Leon Edwards, Sr., age 93 passed away on Wednesday January 17, 2024 at Freeman Hospital. He was born March 25,1930 in Galena, KS, the son of Lloyd and Ruth Edwards. 

Richard graduated from Galena High School in 1948, followed by Kansas State Teachers College in Pittsburg Kansas, known today as Pittsburg State University. Richard majored in Math and Minored in Upholstery.

Richard was an upholsterer for H&H Manufacturing Company for 20 years and transferred to Joe Harding Inc as a Foreman of Upholstery for another 20 years. 








After a short-lived retirement, Richard worked for MSW Inc until going to work for himself at 75 years of age operating Edwards Upholstery. Richard was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church where he served as Assistant Treasurer, Elder, Deacon and Choir Member. Richard was a 33rd Degree Mason and formerly served as District Deputy Grand Master of Kansas as well as Commander in Chief of Se-Kan Consistory No 69 Masonic Lodge. He was also a former member of the Lions Club. He was very involved in athletics and coached his granddaughter’s softball teams for several years. He also loved watching the KC Chiefs, St Louis Cardinals and Kansas Jayhawks.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Ruth Edwards, Brother Lloyd Edwards Jr, former Wife Bertha Edwards and Wife Doris F. Carson. Survivors include son Richard Edwards Jr. (Freda), two daughters: Michelle Edwards (James) and Melody Edwards. Step- children William Carson Jr, Jodi Evans (Alan) and Donna Walker, five grand -children whom he loved tremendously, Ryan Edwards( Neambi), Christopher Edwards, Kellen Clark (Ebony), Adrienne Carson and Maegan Burr ( Calvin) and great grandchildren, Brooke, Kenzie, Niaymiah and Nia- Marie.








The family would like to thank the staff of College View Manor as well as Nancy Smart for their exceptional care.

Funeral services have been scheduled for 10:00 am Thursday, January 25, 2024 at Bethany Presbyterian Churdh in Joplin. Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends during a time of visitation on Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
