Saundra Verhaar

Saundra Sue Verhaar, age 81 of Joplin, Missouri, passed away suddenly on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin. Saundra was born February 18, 1942 in Joplin to the late Glenn Yarbrough, Sr. and Jaunita Brasaer Yarbrough.

Saundra was a graduate of Joplin High School and later met and married, Joseph Verhaar, Sr. on March 31, 1963. Together they owned and operated Joe’s Appliance Repair. She eventually retired from Albertson Groceries after several years of service. 








She and her husband were active in the community, serving with Joplin Senior Center, Joplin Association for the Blind and her church, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church of Joplin. Saundra was also a member of the Joplin Lady Elks, Lodge 501 in previous years.

Surviving Saundra include a son, Joseph Verhaar, Jr. (Kathy) of Joplin; grandson, Joey Verhaar (Becca); two great-grandchildren, Forest and J.J.; brother, Glenn Yarbrough, Jr. (Karen) of Joplin; sister, Wynona Warden of Joplin; sister in-laws, Janie Naaykens (Frank) and Cora Dukes (Denny); several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.








Other than her parents, Saundra is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph on March 7, 2015 and a brother, Richard Yarbrough.

A committal of ashes will take place at a later date in the Osborne Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin.




Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
