(From Parker Mortuary)Dr. Ali Abu-Libdeh, age 78, of Joplin, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024 at his home with family at his side from complications of colon cancer.
Dr. Abu-Libdeh was born April 16, 1945, in Jordan, son of the late Jabr Abu-Libdeh and Misadeh (Staitie) Abu-Libdeh. He grew up in Jordan and finished his medical schooling at Cairo University in Egypt in 1970. He then finished his Internal Medicine training at Birmingham Medical School in Birmingham, AL, before studying for Rheumatology/Clinical Immunology at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
He became board certified in Internal Medicine in 1976 and then in Rheumatology/Clinical Immunology in 1984. He was the first board-certified Rheumatologist in Joplin, where he maintained his private practice for over 40 years.
He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, son, and uncle to many. Dr. Abu-Libdeh cared deeply for his patients and was a lifelong learner, retiring only upon receiving his cancer diagnosis. It was truly an honor to have known and loved him, and he will be greatly missed by so many.
In addition to his parents, Dr. Abu-Libdeh was preceded in death by his son, Maher Abu-Libdeh, who passed in 2015.
Survivors include his daughters, Reem Abu-Libdeh and husband Eric Debbold of San Francisco, CA; Rana Abu-Libdeh of Philadelphia, PA; and Maha Libdeh of Columbia, MO; grandchildren, Emmett Long and Lina Debbold; brothers and sisters, Amenah, Asaad, Mahmoud all of Amman, Jordan; and Omar, Rugayyah, and Aisha all of Jenin, Palestine; 30+ nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.

Burial services were held on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Fairview Cemetery, Joplin, MO.
The family invites friends, colleagues, and former patients to a visitation on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary in Joplin.
