Dolores Smith

Dolores Christine Smith, age 101, Galena, KS, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024 at her home with family at her side.

Dolores was born July 6, 1922 in Galena, KS, daughter of the late Henry Myers and Goldie (Fanning) Myers. She is a lifelong resident of Galena and graduated from Galena High School in 1939 before earning her teaching degree from Pittsburg State Teacher’s College. She continued her education throughout her career and received her Master’s Degree in Education from Pittsburg State University. 

She taught elementary school at Galena for many years before teaching in the special education department before her retirement. She was a member of the Kansas Teacher’s Association, the Galena Education Association, the Phi Delta Kappa Sorority, and the Spring Grove Mission Church.

In addition to her parents, Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, Glen B. Smith; and seven brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her daughters, Glenda Reeves, Debbie Hart and husband Dennis all of Galena; grandchildren, Brent Reeves (Jennifer) of Galena, Blane Reeves (Kari), Blake Reeves (Sarah) both of Kansas City, KS, Victoria Reeves-Herlocker, Meredith Green (Tim) both of Galena, and Alex Hart of Joplin; great-grandchildren, Laural Glynn, Jack Reeves, Charlotte Reeves, Burke Reeves, Addysan Hart, Beau Green, and Jase Green; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be Friday, January 26, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery, Galena, KS with Van Boulware officiating.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Galena Education Foundation care of Parker Mortuary.
