Laura Colvin, 100, formerly of Nevada, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024, at her home in Webb City, MO. She was born on February 28, 1923, in Sheldon, MO to Roy and Viola (Gardner) Shepherd. She married Harold L. Colvin on March 2, 1940, in Nevada, MO and he preceded her in death on July 5, 1999.

Laura lived in Sheldon in her younger years. Life was tough for the family. She walked her little sister two miles to a one room school. Her mother died when Laura was 9. She had three brothers and a sister. It was hard to go to school and care for them, so she quit school. 

She moved to Nevada when she was in her teens where she met the love of her life, Harold Colvin. Two years after they were married Harold left to serve in World War II. At that time, she had one son and times were hard.

In Laura’s adult life God woke her one night and told her to get up and paint. This was only the beginning of the most beautiful paintings. Each one showed the peace of God. She never met a stranger. They all got to hear about her relationship with God. She led many souls to God. Laura was a member of the First Christian Church, Nevada.

Laura lived at home with her daughter. We were truly blessed to have had her for 100 years. She was a precious mother. She stayed home and raised her children. When they got older, she went to work for Wilkinson Pharmacy where she worked for eight years. After retirement they moved to Pomme de Terre then moved back to Nevada. In 2013 she and her daughter, Lora, moved to Webb City where she remained until her death.

Survivors include her five children, Harold Lee Justice (Irene), Corona, CA, Larry Lee Colvin (Beverly), Pleasant Hill, MO, Patricia Butler, Nevada, Gloria Logan (Jeffery), Broken Arrow OK, and Lora McClintock, Webb City, MO; three grandchildren, Robin Colvin, Pleasant Hill, MO, Russell Colvin (Pam), Hermitage, MO, and Jeff Triplett (Billie Jo), Lee’s Summit, MO; five great-grandchildren, Clint Colvin, Jake Colvin, Blake Colvin, Logan Triplett, and Elizabeth Triplett; three great grandchildren, Brody, Cash, and Piper; three step-grandchildren, Chelsea Butler, Megan Butler and Whitney Butler; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son, Benny Colvin; one sister, Wilma Inlow; three brothers, Glen Shepherd, Ernest Shepherd, and Donald Shepherd; and two grandsons, Chris Colvin and Derek Triplett.

A private committal will be held at Newton Burial Park, Nevada, at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
